This ally-funded and BIPOC created series will focus on various aspects of racism From the importance of the role of an ally, to the complexities of
intersectionality and the realness of self-shaming caused by systemic racism, these things
need to be explained.
Racism and the effects it has had on people is complicated. While the burden of explaining the
complexities should not fall on BIPOCs, it often does.
We know there are people who do not have the same shared experience as us, who
understand what racism is but don’t understand what racism feels like or what their
responsibility is in taking action.
By creating a structure where allies are able to contribute financially to the creation of this
docuseries, they will get a chance to show their dedication to learning about racism. Allies can
show their care and concern by putting actual value on the work we are doing every time we
are asked to explain our experiences. Emotional labour is labour.
In turn, we the BIPOC creators and contributors of the series, will offer kind explanations to our
allies, sharing our stories and showing them compassion.
This is an important conversation. If we can not talk about race, we can not fix it.
Our stories need to be heard so they can no longer be denied. Our stories will be shared to
highlight the goals for each episode, without compromising the authenticity and realness of our
experiences. If it’s uncomfortable, then it’s uncomfortable. You know what’s worse than
discomfort? Racism.
This series aims to support the movement. To bring together BIPOC communities and allies,
who we will empower to help us dismantle this system and work towards a better tomorrow.
